Universal Prayer (Anonymous)

Let there be peace and harmony

In the homes of our communities.

Let there be more tolerance, more understanding,

More give and take, even love.

Let there be a little less hunger today
Than there was yesterday
And protection from the weather.
Let resources be geared towards improved health.

Inspire us in our learning
Let there be equity of opportunity
And justice for all.
Let us learn to - share more of our blessings
And to bless not individually but universally, our needs.

Above all, let us learn to trust in
Your mercy and goodness, O Lord!
Giver and sustainer of life.

Rumour has it that this prayer was inspired by Apollo 13.

Picture this ..

The craft and her travelers were in mortal danger. In possibly the only occasion since time began, did the whole world from East to West, from North to South whisper a collective prayer.  And the One from whom all things were made, listened.

If only, we could replicate that method of prayer to encompass all human needs and obligations.

Example 2: The Chilean miners -  all 33 of the trapped, for over two months, well and rescued.  Collective and universal prayers would be expanded to encompass all the workers there and around the world.  And the One from whom all things were made, listened.

If only, we could replicate this method of prayer to encompass all human needs and obligations.

Example 3: When Jesus was asked "How to pray?" -  He taught his followers the 'Our Father'

Analyse the 'Our Father'..  Not one word in that prayer is about oneself or the singular person.  It is collective and universal from start to finish.

If only, we could replicate this method of prayer to encompass all human needs and obligations.

The crux of the matter is in the sentence or phrase "not individually but universally, our needs" If only, we could replicate this method of prayer to encompass all human needs and obligations.
